The router has an IP address that is unique on the private network and another one that is unique on the Internet. In this scenario, the computers on your network keep their own address space and the router acts as a representative on the Internet. However, that uniqueness applies per “ address space,” so within a private network, addresses only have to be unique there. So, every device connected to the Internet has to have a unique IP address.
